    . In 2005, 90% of all new jobs in the U.S. are expected to be in the service sector, with tourism as the second largest service industry after health care. In Florida, the tourism industry (including hotels, airlines, theme parks, cruise lines, etc.) is by far the state's largest employer and revenue generator. Explore the dynamic field of tourism through the discipline of Marketing - the process of attracting and maintaining satisfied, profitable customers. The course provides a rich depth of practical examples and applications, showing the major decisions facing marketers in fields of tourism, travel, and hospitality. In addition to analyzing cases and working on projects, students will have a chance to hear from industry experts and consider potential internship and career opportunities. Behind-the-scenes tours of a luxury hotel, tourist attraction, and harbor cruise, are anticipated. Fulfills Social Science Academic Area requirement. Please note: There is an additional fee of $25.00 for field trips.
  • This introductory class is designed to give students an understanding of the chemical aspects of food composition with emphasis on the functional properties of the major components of foods: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and water, as well as the chemical changes and reactions that take place in foods during processing and storage. We will look into the structure and function of molecules associated with flavor, taste, color and preservation. Through laboratory experiments you will be introduced to some basic laboratory techniques, software for data analysis, and reporting scientific data.
